What is the Weerribben-Wieden National Park?

De Weerribben is a 35 km² nature reserve in the northwest of Overijssel. It is part of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. De Weerribben National Park was originally established in 1992. Later in 2009, the park was expanded to include the De Wieden area, which is similar in nature to its south. Together they form the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, which is almost 100 km² in size. Together they form one of the most important wetlands in Europe.

In the winter months it is a wonderful place for ice skating along idyllic spots. In the other months of the year, the area offers a wonderful spectacle of greenery, cascading water and swaying reeds. The Weerribben Wieden are also very suitable for beautiful hiking trips. Then use the walking network. With more than 550 kilometers of continuous network and 60 ready-made circular walks, you have not yet finished walking. At 24 starting points there is an information board with all routes and information. You can determine your route yourself.
